Off The Record, Chenin Blanc 2023
This is the sixth vintage, produced from a small parcel of Chenin Blanc grapes sourced from within the cool-climate district of Elgin. Chenin Blanc is something of a rarity in Elgin and only 2688 bottles of the Off the Record Chenin Blanc 2023 were produced.
Wild ferment and barrel aged for 10 months in a mixture of 1st, 2nd, 3rd & 4th fill barriques with partial malolactic fermentation, the 2023 vintage has an attractive pale straw colour with a nose that leads with appealing citrus notes, which unfold onto the palate with a rich, creamy mouthfeel.
The broad spectrum of citrus, underlying minerality and gentle wooding have contributed to the complexity of this Chenin Blanc and culminate in a long lingering finish.

“Bobby Wallace sources his stylish Chenin Blanc from Vrede en Lust. Salty, fresh and mineral-etched, it has just the right amount of residual sugar to balance the stony acidity. Citrus, patisserie spice and green apple flavours are well matched and combined on the
palate. 2025-29”

“Cool climate Elgin fruit gets same vinification as last in 2023: half each skin contact & wholebunch for character & freshness, natural ferment & 10 months in oak, 10% new. Elegant tablemate, with almond & bruised apple notes & clean mineral farewell.”
