Jordan, Barrel Fermented Chardonnay 2024
An elegant, barrel‑fermented Chardonnay from Stellenbosch Kloof’s cool-climate vineyards. Crafted from 25-40 year old vines, the wine spent nine months in 228‑L French oak barrels (28% new, 32% second-fill) and matured “sur lie” with occasional barrel rolling to enhance texture.
Fragrances of lemon biscuit and overripe orange define the nose, along with subtle vanilla. The palate is creamy, refined and layered, supported by fine acidity and elegantly integrated oak. A bold, full-bodied Chardonnay of finesse, complexity and presence.

Description
Gary and Kathy Jordan have been making world-class wines since 1993 on a farm with a history going back over 300 years. He’s a geologist, she’s an economist. Gary’s parents, Ted and Sheelagh, bought the now 164-hectare Stellenbosch property in 1982, and embarked on an extensive replanting programme, specializing in classic varieties suited to the different soils and slopes. Unique by Nature’s Design.
TASTING NOTES
A variety of chardonnay clones were planted on different slopes, harvested at different ripening levels and all of it fermented and matured in French oak barrels. These practices help to achieve natural balance and allow for different textural components which we then blend to achieve finesse and complexity. Bold and graceful with fragrances of lemon biscuit and overripe oranges.
HARVESTING
The grapes were harvested from the 14th of February to the 2nd of March 2023 at an average of 21.3°B.
WINEMAKING
The juice was barrel-fermented in a selection of 228-litre Burgundy-shaped French oak barrels (28% new, 32% second-fill in Nevers and Burgundian oak barrels). The wine was matured “sur lie” in the barrel for 9 months with occasional rolling of the barrels to accentuate the leesy character.
LOCATION & CLIMATE
The distinct ravine in the Stellenbosch Kloof ward allows the opportunity to harness the cooling influences from the False Bay on Jordan’s south and east-facing slopes. This captures the intense flavour compounds found in the grape skins.

“Jordan have dialled back on the malolactic fermentation on this wine to reduce its buttery texture, producing a more focused and refreshing wine. Smooth, yet refreshing, this has some lees-derived weight, pear, citrus and butterscotch flavours and a tangy finish. 2025-28”

“Yellow apple and nectarine aromas with river rock nuance open gracefully, revealing grapefruit pith and creamy texture with poised freshness.”
