Description
Gary and Kathy Jordan have been making world-class wines since 1993 on a farm with a history going back over 300 years. He’s a geologist, she’s an economist. Gary’s parents, Ted and Sheelagh, bought the now 164-hectare Stellenbosch property in 1982, and embarked on an extensive replanting programme, specializing in classic varieties suited to the different soils and slopes. Unique by Nature’s Design.

LOCATION & CLIMATE
The distinct ravine which embodies Stellenbosch Kloof harness all the qualities of a well orientated compass. Varying elevations and aspects allow us to grow a selection of classic varieties to specific sites that optimise this expression through their location. The cooler south and east-facing aspects, unique in Stellenbosch, hosts the more sensitive and aromatic white-skinned grape varieties.
Stellenbosch Kloof enjoys a cooler Mediterranean climate with maritime influences from False Bay, 14km to the south, and a refreshing breeze channeled from the West Coast’s Benguela current, 24km to the north-west. These two breezes culminate at the top end of the ravine and bring in early morning mists, especially from False Bay. Consequently, temperatures in our meso-climate can be measured at least 3° Celsius cooler than inland Stellenbosch during ripening periods. This adds a unique characteristic to Jordan wines.
WINEMAKING
Fermented in overhead retort-shaped, stainless steel fermentors at 28°C. Three pump-overs were done daily over the fermenting cap. After pressing, the wine was racked to barrel where it finished malo-lactic fermentation. A selection of the best barrels was made and the wine spent a total of 18 months in 225 litre French oak barrels.

Pairs well with hearty, rich dishes like grilled red meats, stews, and flavorful pasta dishes. Excellent pairings include grilled lamb chops, beef tenderloin, roasted duck breast, and venison stew. It also complements earthy flavors from mushrooms or roasted vegetables and can be served with aged cheeses or even certain chocolate desserts.

“Sjaak Nelson thinks that 2022 was an “amazing vintage” for reds, which it was if you got your viticulture and picking decisions right. Now made with Cabernet Sauvignon, a highest ever 47% Merlot and 3% Petit Verdot, it has bramble, cassis and green herb flavours, a dab of dark chocolate, layered tannins and a refreshing finish. 2026-32″

“Dark berries intertwine with notes of cedar and toasty oak. Rich palate of dense red fruits complemented by attractive acidity and a hint of tobacco and smoky nuances.”

“Juicy red fruits with lovely vanilla notes. Textured and well balanced. The oak is present but supports the ripe fruit well.”

“Always-superb Bordeaux blend a homage to family heritage in footwear. 50/47 Cab & Merlot, dab Petit Verdot in 2022. New barrels increased from 2021, 23% to 39%, still in sync with opulent, juicy dark fruit, adding cedar spice & pliable dry tannin support. Structured but smooth, already inviting, pedigree to improve & reward further.”
