GlenWood, Unoaked Chardonnay 2021

(1 review)

GlenWood Estate is in the Robertsvlei Valley, close to Franschoek in the Western Cape. Their wines are multi-award winning and have become synonymous with incredible quality and diligent winemaking.

This Chardonnay had its berries harvested and whole-bunch pressed, with fermentation occurring over 14 days. The wine spent five months on its gross lees, before being bottled.

The wine is fresh and fruit-forward, with notes of orange blossom, lime, pear, green apple, and a clean lingering finish.

Viticulture: Vine age: 10 years Density: 4000 vines per hectare Yield: 7.6 tons per hectare A low canopy allowed optimal sunlight penetration. Minimal irrigation was used. Fruit ripened slowly allowing development of small bunches with highly concentrated flavours.

Vinification: Grapes were harvested at 22.2°B and whole-bunch pressed to a low 1.4 bars of pressure. Fermentation occurred over a 14 day period. The wine spent five months on the gross lees before stabilisation, filtration and bottling.

Winemaker’s comments: Elegant orange blossom and lime aromas on the nose, supported by green apple and lime flavours on the palate. This wine’s crisp and refreshing features are perfectly balanced with a lingering finish.
