Dornier, Semillon 2023
Dornier is a family owned winery situated in the ‘Golden Triangle’ of the famous Upper Blaauwklippen Valley – in the fine company of De Trafford, Waterford and Keermont. The property produces premium quality wines, with minimal intervention in the winery, that are expressive of the terroir.
The grapes for this expressive Semillon are from a single vineyard which is tucked along the foothill of the Stellenbosch Mountain.
On first impressions this wine has an attractive golden colour. The nose is bursting with flavours of lemon rind, fresh hay, caramelised apple and honey. The palate is rich in flavours of quince, lemon meringue and brioche, with a luscious full texture backed by a well-balanced acidity and lingering aftertaste.

Food Pairing

Vineyards
The grapes for this expressive Semillon are from a single vineyard which is tucked along the foothill of the Stellenbosch Mountain. Decomposed red and yellow granite soils with a generous amount of clay buffer the vines and advance balance throughout the vineyard where naturally low yields enhance fruit concentration.
Vinification
The selected grapes are hand harvested at optimal ripeness and only the finest bunches reach the cellar to be crushed during the cool morning hours. Whole bunch pressing ensures soft extraction of the juice which is then settled before being racked to first and second fill 300l French Oak barrels for ferment. After ferment, the wine is batonaged regularly to enhance mouthfeel and then aged for nine months on the fine lees resulting in the elegant texture.
Analysis:

“Lemon tang with biscuit creaminess on 2023. Fruity yet broad & textured , a gentle honeyed note pierced by acid & spicy oak, 20% new (vs 10% in 2022), 9 months on lees a subtle extra.”
