De Toren Fusion V Vintage Vertical Case

De Toren Fusion V is an iconic, ultra-premium Bordeaux-style red blend produced by De Toren Private Cellar in the Stellenbosch region of South Africa. First released in 1999 as South Africa’s first gravity-fed, five-varietal blend, it is modeled after a classic Left Bank Bordeaux where Cabernet Sauvignon takes center stage.

The “V” in Fusion V stands for the five noble Bordeaux grape varieties meticulously fused together. While exact percentages fluctuate slightly depending on the vintage weather, a typical composition consists of:
  • Cabernet Sauvignon: Provides the backbone, structure, and intense blackcurrant core.
  • Merlot: Adds fleshy texture, roundness, and plum characteristics.
  • Malbec: Contributes deep colour, hints of velvet texture, and dark berry notes.
  • Cabernet Franc: Lends aromatic fragrance, subtle spice, and herbal complexity.
  • Petit Verdot: Brings dense violet colour, firm tannins, and a crisp acidity finish.

De Toren utilizes a meticulous, high-tech viticulture process. The estate mapped out specific soil parcels to align perfectly with each grape type. To maintain the pristine quality of the hand-sorted berries, the winery uses a 100% gravity-flow mechanism, entirely eliminating harsh mechanical pumping. The wine is matured for 12 months in 225-litre oak barrels (roughly 50% new wood), using primarily French oak, though a small portion of the Malbec component is aged in American oak to enhance its sweet spice profile.

The De Toren Fusion V Vintage Vertical Case includes the following vintages:

1 x bottle De Toren, Fusion V 2013

1 x bottle De Toren, Fusion V 2015

1 x bottle De Toren, Fusion V 2017
