Rust en Vrede, Estate Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon 2020

(1 review)

Prominent dark fruit aromas layered with savoury notes of cured meat and dried herbs. Flavours of sandalwood, all spice and worn leather adding complexity and depth. Rich on the palate with a sustained freshness.

From one of the Cape’s finest Estates, specialising in the exclusive production of red wine from estate Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and Merlot since 1977.

Description

Our Estate Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon is our longest standing tradition here at Rust en Vrede. The variety that Stellenbosch is most well-known for, Rust en Vrede Cabernet Sauvignon offers a concentrated and classic rendition of the variety.

Vineyard
Grapes for this wine come from 22 hectares of vineyard planted on the Rust en Vrede Estate.

Ageing
18 months in 100% French oak barrels, using 20% new oak.

Tasting Notes
Expressive black fruit jumps out of the glass. Juicy black cherry and cassis combine with blueberries, liquorice and sandalwood. Full bodied and intense on the palate. Fine grained, grippy tannins balance well with a fresh, black-fruit acidity. Tobacco, nutmeg and savoury spice bring complex layers to mulberry and bramble fruit that round out the palate. A typically well-structured Cabernet with excellent length.

Date tasted: 1 June 2022.
