Mark Le Roux, Chenin Blanc 2019

Aromas of stone fruit, sweet melon, hints of a lime and a herbal pithiness. Lovely intense volume on the palate with rich, warm fruit flavours and a long smooth finish.

Made by Tim Atkin’s Young winemaker of the year 2017 and current Head Winemaker of Waterford Estate, Mark Le Roux.

An excellent example of the unique characteristics of a South African Chenin Blanc, the country’s flagship white wine.

Chenin Blanc

Showcasing the lovely unique character and flavour of Chenin blanc grown in South Africa. Aromas of yellow fruit, sweet melon, and hints of attractive lime and herbal pithiness. The palate is coated with various stone fruits and a touch of delicate and satisfying bitterness. The wine finishes soft and smooth.

Winemaker’s Notes

A Wine made to capture the unique character of Chenin blanc grown in South Africa. I unfortunately don’t own vineyards, but until such time, what I do guarantee is a pinnacle wine for you to experience.

The Vines

These vines are planted in the heart of the South African winelands, Stellenbosch. An area normally referred to as warm climate region but due to the near proximity to the ocean, this provides cool oceanic breezes to cool the fruit overnight. The diurnal differences allow the vines to lock lovely textured flavour into the grape at no compromise towards acidity.

Hand harvested, and then bunch sorted before whole bunch pressed directly to old 500L oak barrels for fermentation. I then allowed for spontaneous fermentation to take place. After fermentation, the wine was left on the gross lees for 6 months before blending, and then aged for a further 2 months as a final blend before bottling took place.
