VINTAGE CONDITIONS
A cold and wet winter was ideal for late but even butting. The wetter and cooler weather persisted through spring, with a slight heat spike towards the end of January. Later veriason and cool growing conditions made 2022 vintage a memorable one with structured, elegant, age worthy wines.
VINIFICATION DETAILS
Fermented in open top concrete fermenters at 290C. The floating skins were punched down by hand, every 2 hours during fermentation. The juice was drawn off the skins after 5 days. After malolactic fermentation the wine was matured for 24 months in 100% new 225L French Nevers oak barrels.

95 points | Tim Atkin MW Special South Africa Report 2025
“A little awkward when I tasted it (twice) in South Africa, as Paul Sauer often tends to be in its youth, this is a wine that will reward patience. Sourced from six older blocks on the estate, it partners Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Cabernet Franc and 18% Merlot with ageing in new oak. Leafy, vanilla top notes lead you into a palate of cranberry, cassis and tobacco leaf topped by aromatic spices. Has the acidity and underlying acidity to age. 2027-35”
