Hartenberg Estate, Chardonnay 2018
A new rising star with consistent ratings and awards, the Hartenberg Chardonnay shows the estate has more to offer than top quality Shiraz.
Well integrated oak, only 20% first fill, adds notes of vanilla and creme caramel to a fruit profile which shines through with ripe peach, apple and pear.
A cracking Chardonnay that won’t break the bank.
WINEMAKER TASTING NOTES
A melange of crème caramel, dried peach, pineapple, cashew and a perfumed toastiness on the bouquet. Lovely fruit on the palate, a ”moreish” fruit sweetness, offset by fresh acidity. This wine specifically – drink cool, not chilled.
Grapes were handpicked in the early morning of each of the 4 days of picking so as to capture the subtle primary flavours that the variety offers.
Every batch from each of the morning picks as well as those of the individual parcels were kept separate in the cellar so as to aid quality selection when it came to assembling the final blend.
Nestled in a valley on the free-draining, north-eastern slopes of the Bottelary Hills in Stellenbosch, Hartenberg enjoys a Mediterranean climate of warm, dry summers and cold, wet winters.
The vineyards face north, west, and east, with varietals planted to take advantage of either morning or afternoon sun. There is a difference in altitude of some 250 metres between the northern and southern vineyards.
Cream based foods, smoked chicken or duck, seared tuna with olive oil, lime juice and black pepper.
