Description
Situated in the Franschhoek valley where vineyards have been planted since the late 1600s, when exiled French Huguenots brought their viticultural know-how to their new home in South Africa.
Only the best grapes were picked at 25.5°B and then fermented until dry in small open-top fermenters being punched down by hand six times a day. Once pressed, the wine underwent natural malolactic fermentation in the barrel. Matured for 24 months in a selection of new premium French oak barrels
Rich layers of spices with hints of black fruits and liquorice.
Drink within 7 – 12 years from vintage.

“Fans of pepper spice in their Syrah won’t find it here, but this still has plenty of varietal character. Black olive, iodine and blackberry flavours are complemented rather than dominated by new French and American oak, gutsy tannins and the concentration to age further in bottle. 2022-27”

“All-new barrels 24 months, half each French, American, 2017 impresses with fruit intensity, spice layering, sheer opulence & power, in contrast to 2016’s more svelte styling. Textured palate promises longevity but tannins are ripe, amenable in youth.”
