This exceptionally exclusive Shiraz, The Black Lion, is even richer, bolder, and more elegant than before, with the most luxurious mouthfeel. It is unlike anything you’ve ever tasted.

De Toren Black Lion is fermented and aged in 100% new French Oak, each one of the mere 1000 – 1300 bottles, is individually labelled and numbered by hand.

BARREL MATURATION
Aged in a climatized barrel/ maturation room (14 degrees Celsius at 80% humidity) for 18 months in 225 Litre 100% new French Oak barrels.

TASTING NOTES
Due to being a slightly cooler season with more moderate temperatures, The Black Lion 2021 vintage without a doubt shows great balance, promising decades of drinking pleasure to follow. A truly aromatic and robust wine with bolder tannins, and phenomenal dark fruit expression. The granite-rich soils from the Swartland region produce an aromatic intensity of perfumed floral violets and delectably dark fruits. Unified with the classic ironstone characteristics of the Stellenbosch region and earthy, tobacco-leaf flavours, the wine culminates into a robust form with chalky tannins and an elegant, balanced structure.

DECANTING
For optimum enjoyment, decant De Toren’s Black Lion wine at least one hour before consumption. It is recommended to serve this wine at optimal temperature (15 – 18 degrees Celcius).

AGEING POTENTIAL
This red wine from South Africa has a phenomenal ageing potential. If stored and cellared in optimal conditions, this wine have the potential to be matured for up to 40 years.
