Ali in Wonderfuland, Chenin Blanc 2022
This is the fourth vintage from Ali in Wonderfuland, and the first use of Chenin Blanc as the single-varietal. It’s the brainchild and side-project of Ali Verberg, the young assistant winemaker at the family run Luddite winery.
The grapes were picked early in order to retain a beautiful natural acidity. Expect a bouquet of fruit – an array of citrus mingles with some white stone fruit – a hint of spice and some mouth watering salinity. 10 days of skin contact, fermentation in older oak barrels and batonage (lees stirring) all add texture and structure to the wine.
Ali only made one barrel of this wine. That is 380 bottles in total. Get it while you can.
This is the 4th vintage of Ali In Wonderfuland wines. Chenin Blanc 2022. This harvest was a cool lead up with summer rainfall which meant longer hanging time and more elegant flavours. I picked the chenin early for some natural acidity but still have a good fruit component.
10 days of skin contact with gentle punch downs morning and afternoon to give some texture and structure to the wine. Pressed and went straight into a 4th fill 300l barrel for 6 months. It was batonaged once a month for lees contact.
This wine was bottled straight out of barrel and 380 bottles were produced.
